VILLARD-DE-LANS, THE HISTORIC MTB DESTINATION
Easy to get to by train (TGV), car (30 minutes off the motorway at Grenoble), or plane (1 hour from Grenoble and 1h30 from Lyon airport), Villard de Lans is little known outside of France, but an important destination for French mountain bikers.
A village since days gone by, and resort since the early 20th century, Villard de Lans was an early spa town until therapies gave way to tourism. It is constantly evolving, offering visitors an infrastructure adapted to the original mountain activities, as well as the latest emerging trends. In 1987 they hosted the first ever MTB World Championships.
With numerous shops and restaurants open all year round; hotels and apartments for all budgets; a large swimming centre; plus ice rink, bowling, casino and of course chair lifts to get bikers (and walkers) up the mountain; the village has evolved, whilst maintaining its original charm.
The main square, intriguingly called l’Ours (the Bear) is the beating heart of the village. The old maire, sat on his throne outside the Cultural centre overlooks village life.
Aurélie Grosse, Velo Vert Festival Ambassador
" It would be impossible to choose one best moment or experience amongst all those at Vélo Vert Festival. Each race or ride is different, but each has its own dose of fun, shared moments, and a friendly atmosphere. It’s a bit like your best friend’s birthday, the event not to miss!"
Luc Alphand, ski champion and winner of the Dakar rally
" I participated in the Vélo Vert Festival Electric race for the first time this year and had an amazing time. The hour long race was really technical and tiring, even with the assistance...but just fun and good times!"
Jérome Pace, Premium Representative
" The Pass Premium is a VIP access to Vélo Vert Festival and all its races, an exclusive pass. It’s also a community that gets together around a jersey. We talk a lot during the event of course, but also stay in touch throughout the year through the social networks, it’s excellent! "
Mathieu Verdun, 2016 Festival participant
" My best memory from the 2016 festival? My 6 year old daughter’s smile when she completed a loop of the Hutchinson Pumptrack unaided for the first time! And the All-Mountain race too!"
Stéphane Linossier, Millenium Automobile - Skoda Grenoble concession
" The Vélo Vert Festival is an excellent opportunity for brand awareness. The show gets us in front of both novice riders and bike lovers, to show that Skoda is the car brand for sportspeople. "
Hélène Marcouyre, 10 times French MTB champion
" I’ve been coming to Vélo Vert Festival since 2015, and I always enjoy the race. It’s a race anyone can appreciate, with people of all levels, from French champion, to someone who just enjoys a ride from time to time and seeing how fast they can push it against the clock! "
Fred Horny, Exhibitor
" Another year back at the Vélo Vert Festival, we see the same faces, all in a good mood, and so we’re happy too! Lots of festival goers are here and all’s going well, as usual! "
